sun tea

sun tea

"There's sun tea on the porch," was a regular thing to hear in my house when I was growing up. It's a tradition my mom instilled in me and one I will continue to keep alive.

This simple ritual is such an easy and intentional way to start your day. The formula is simple: let the sun brew your iced tea. You might have heard of moon water? Well, here's its solar counterpart. (A little witchcraft, anyone?) Use the moment to invite some calm or reflection into yourself. Close your eyes, take a deep breath. Smile. Say some affirmations, cast a little spell. Whatever suits you.

You can't really go wrong with any iteration of the recipe. I've used varying teas, herbs, and fruits to fit any mood or season.

  1. Add about 1 tea bag per 2 cups (I've been loving Country Peach Passion by Celestial Seasonings) to glass jar or pitcher of water.
  2. Add sprigs of herb choice. (Mint, rosemary, sage - all great. Feel free to combine them, too!)
  3. Let tea brew in sunlight for 1-2 hours. (Out here in Texas, it's so hot right now that I swear my tea is done in 20 minutes.)
  4. Squeeze 1/2 a lemon into brewed tea. (Or, you can add lime, orange, strawberries, cucumber - endless possibilities.)
  5. Pour over ice and enjoy.
