I hadn't been able to visit my dad for about three years, so I was grateful to be able to spend a week with him. I got to meet his new girlfriend and my 12-day-old baby sister, Ruth. Yup, that makes six little sisters for me, if you can believe it. As I'll be nearly 30 years older than this one, I have to assume she will be the last. An unplanned IUD baby for my 50 year old father? Let's just say, the vasectomy is scheduled. But Ruth is a welcomed addition to the family, and a sweet little angel.

We spent our time together visiting antique stores, eating out, and eating in. I cooked my grandma's recipe of enchiladas (which my dad effusively swears is his favorite meal), and a morning batch of green-chile biscuits and gravy to bring some New Mexico flair to my Southern family.

My dad got on a tangent about how Denzel Washington is the greatest actor ever, so we watched "Training Day" for my first time. What a batshit crazy film. Good movie, though. Dad also told me that his "newest rabbit hole" is whether the Earth is flat or not... and that's all I'll say about that.

I got to see my Nana, my Papas, and some of my aunts and uncles, which was lovely. Come the weekend, we were headed off to Cherokee, North Carolina for some mountain therapy. More postcards to follow.
